Ah, dear visitor, you’ve wandered into the digital realm of America.dev, a corner of the internet where the spirit of innovation meets the quirkiness of human endeavor. Here, I, your somewhat bewildered but enthusiastic guide, shall take you on a journey through the annals of American ingenuity.

Welcome to America.dev!

I’m Ben, or as I like to think of myself, the curator of curiosities. This site isn’t just about code or the latest tech gadgets; it’s about celebrating the human spirit of “let’s see if we can do this” that’s so quintessentially American. From tinkering with code to exploring the vastness of space, America.dev is my attempt to stitch together the fabric of American innovation, one blog post at a time.

The Birth of America.dev

Originally, I had visions of creating a game, something that would probably involve space because, let’s face it, who doesn’t want to play with the stars? But then, there I was gawking at SpaceX like it was the best firework display in the galaxy, and I realized—I’m not just interested in space travel; I’m fascinated by the audacity of it all. That’s when the new America.dev was born, not with a bang but with a “Why not?” This video from SpaceX and the Polaris Mission is what inspired the new America.dev.

The Mission Statement

America.dev is my digital sandbox where I can play with the toys of history, innovation, and the occasional nod to the future, I write to learn, to share, and to shine a spotlight on the times humans said “Hold my beer, watch this,” and proceeded to do something remarkable. Here, I don’t just look at the dark side of history;  I celebrate the moments when innovation was the hero, not the villain.

Why Innovation?

Because, frankly, innovation is where the magic happens. It’s where someone looks at a problem and instead of throwing up their hands and complaining, they invent a solution. It’s the innovation that is the heartbeat of this entire endeavor/ Innovation isn’t just about the latest gadget or the most efficient algorithm; it’s the relentless pursuit of “What if?” It’s the spirit that drove Benjamin Franklin to fly a kite in a thunderstorm, not because he was mad (though, arguably, he might have been a bit, aren’t all geniuses), but because he wanted to understand the world better. It’s the same spirit that propelled Elon Musk to dream of Mars not as a distant dot in the sky, but as the next frontier for human settlement.

Here at America.dev I am celebrating that spirit. I’m digging into the moments when someone looked at the status quo and decided it needed a good shaking up. Whether it’s through inventions that changed daily life, or grand visions that reach beyond our blue marble, I am here to honor the audacity, the creativity, and the sheer will to make the impossible, well, not so impossible.

Whether you are here for the history, the tech, or just because you’re curious about what makes America tick, welcome aboard. Let’s explore together how innovation, in all its forms, has been and continues to be the real driving force behind not just a nation, but humanity’s push toward the horizon, and beyond.

Remember in the words of Douglas Adams, “Don’t panic!” Here, we’re all just along for the ride, enjoying the view and occasionally marveling at the fact that someone, somewhere, thought it was a good idea to put a man on the moon. And then though, “Why stop there?”

Happy exploring and may your curiosity be as boundless as the universe itself.
